We are really looking forward to welcoming all our children back to school tomorrow. We have 3 new members of staff (Mrs Stepinska in F1, Mr Pendlebury in Y3, Mr Davies in Y5) and some new children joining us. We are very pleased that they have joined our school community.
You will see that we have been busy over the holidays making the building even nicer for the children:
- Year 3 has been completely renovated, just like Y2
- Year 1, Year 3 and F2 have air-conditionning units to keep them cool
- Year 1, Year 3, Year 4 and Year 6 have new plasma screen Interactive Whiteboards
- We have a new space upstairs (ready to be turned into a library), which used to be a Resources Room
We have also been working hard to make sure that the Teaching and Learning at St Mary’s is as excellent as it can be, and have developed a special assessment system to replace the old system of National Curriculum levels. This will help the teachers to ensure the children make the best possible progress towards ‘Age Related Expectations’ (the Government’s new way of recording children’s attainment) and beyond. To find out what the children are learning, please see the Topic Webs that the teachers are producing, and where possible, attend the ‘meet the teacher’ meeting in the next couple of weeks.
Homework will look a little different this year. Reading will continue as before (please help with this); other homework will be coming home in the week of 14th September. We will send out a letter to explain the changes, so do look out for that.
We will be continuing our high standards of attendance and punctuality, smartness and presentation (please make sure your children have the correct uniform) and encouraging every child to be the best they can be.
We look forward to seeing you tomorrow.
