Today, Year 5 and 6 practised what it would be like to be in secondary school. They had a timetable to follow and different lessons to go to throughout the morning. There were Drama, Chemistry and Philosophy lessons for them to sample. In Drama, children used a Midsummer Night’s Dream to create their own drama, in Chemistry they learnt how to test the pH of a liquid, and in Philosophy they debated questions such as ‘how should animals be treated?’ and ‘are the best things in life free?’
Today, we held our very first Graduation for Nursery pupils going up into Reception class next year. They were presented with a scroll, congratulating them on their achievements. The children who will stay in F1 next year also received a special card. The children sang songs about moving on and the future, while dressed in their amazing gowns, which were kindly donated by one of our parents. Well done, F1!
As part of STEM week, Year 1 and 2 studied caterpillars and watched how they turned into butterflies.
Last week, they released their butterflies into the wild!
Here is today’s newsletter: July 7th 2017
Yesterday, Key Stage 2 all visited All Souls Church on Regent’s Street for a joint service with All Souls School. The two choirs came together to sing pieces they had both learnt, including a medley of Beatles songs. All Souls read from the Bible and St Mary’s led the prayers. Everyone sang their hearts out and it was a wonderful occasion. We were particularly privileged to have Noel Tredinnick playing for us.
Here is a clip of our Beatles medley:
And here is a clip of ‘Great is Your Faithfulness’:
Today, Year 5 went to the ‘Wonderlab’ at the Science Museum. The children had a great time experimenting with the Wonderlab’s 50 different hands-on scientific investigations.
They then took part in a presentation called ‘Flash, Bang, Wallop’, in which children got to blow things up to show how fire is created and can be used to help us.
Today, classes shared what they had learnt and made in STEM week last week. We heard about making 3D bubbles in Reception (F2), studying caterpillars and butterflies in KS1 and creating drinks, jam tarts and bird houses in KS2! Well done, everyone.
