Year 5 have been working on a project to support one of our local charities – the West London Mission homeless shelter, near school. This has been part of their learning in RE this term. They were reflecting on the true meaning of Christmas for Christians, and what sort of message they think Jesus would want to communicate to the world now. They had specifically said in their class RE feedback that they wanted to get more involved in charitable activities, and they have really enjoyed developing this aspect of their RE lessons.
The children wrote to the other classes in the school asking them to bring donations, and have been collecting them all week. They also made posters to display around school, sharing what they think the true message of Christmas is for Christians. This afternoon they delivered their gifts and found out more about the work of the centre. Well done, Year 5!
