Westminster cross country competition

On Thursday, children from Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 took part in the Westminster cross country competition in Regent’s Park. There were over 20 schools taking part and overall, St Mary’s came 11th! There were top 20 finishes for some pupils and excellent sporting conduct throughout. Well done!

Black History Month

This Black History Month, we are commemorating the 70th anniversary of the arrival of the Windrush. Year 6 read the poem ‘Windrush Child’ by John Agard and used it as inspiration to write their own.

Here is Mariam’s:

Pigeons wave me goodbye

Clouds wave me goodbye

London waves me goodbye

As I sail away from home.

Has the world turned against me?

Has my life hated me all along?

Has my soul been unloyal to me?

As I sail away from home.

Tears pours from my weary eyes

Arms as tired as ever

Eye tired from crying

Heart bursting out of my chest

As I sail away from home.

Alone on this boat

Hated by everyone

The stormy sea crashing against the boat

My poor heart skipping every heartbeat

As I sail away from home.

A new chapter turns

Like a book skipping pages

Every page is different with its own words

Life is different with everyone around me as I am on land.

Digital footprint survey for parents

The internet is a fantastic resource but it can be hard to keep up with all the new sites and games that children are using. Before the holidays, we sent home information about a survey we are doing to find out about how we can support you to keep your children safe. So far, a few parents have completed it but we want to hear from lots more of you! The link to the survey is: https://goo.gl/forms/5k4NfCji0NVrkcLC2

St Mary’s is a Top School!

St Mary’s has been selected for a STARS Top School award!

STARS (Sustainable Travel: Active, Responsible, Safe) is a scheme run by TfL to inspire young Londoners to think differently about travel and its impact on their health, wellbeing and the environment.

St Mary’s has the gold level accreditation but we have also won a Top School award for all the work we have done promoting active travel, improving air quality and road safety for our school community.

Some pupils will be invited to attend a special awards ceremony in December at City Hall.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all the people who have helped us to win this award, but especially to our pupils and their families for all their efforts and support. We are very proud of you!
