Collective Worship

Collective Worship

As a Church of England school, our daily act of collective worship is centred on Christianity and our core Christian values. Each and every day our school community comes together for collective worship.

During our daily acts of collective worship we ensure that we are providing worship which is inspirational, inclusive and invitational. We use the aims below to ensure that children and adults in our school community are given the opportunity to develop spirituality through experiences of prayer, stillness, worship and reflection:

  • Engage in an act of community.
  • Express praise and thanksgiving to God.
  • Be still and reflect.
  • Explore the big questions of life and respond to national events.
  • Foster respect and deepen spiritual awareness.
  • Reflect on the character of God and on the teachings of Christ.
  • Affirm Christian values and attitudes.
  • Share each other's joys and challenges.
  • Celebrate special times in the Christian calendar.

Every day, a different member of staff or clergy leads our collective worship:

Monday worship: the Headteacher or a member of the leadership team will lead worship in line with the school vision and values.

Tuesday worship: is led by the clergy or member of St Mary's Church Youth Team.

Wednesday worship is led by class teachers and builds upon the previous day's worship and linking this to our school's vision and values.

Thursday worship is led by our Music lead, the whole school comes together to celebrate joy through song.

Friday worship is led by a member of the leadership team. During this worship we celebrate our success linked to our school values. Parents and carers are warmly welcomed to this worship time.

Christian Festivals

We celebrate the major Christian festivals throughout the year. Parents and carers are invited to join us, either at school, or at our Parish Church; St Mary's Bryanston Square. These include the Christmas, Epiphany, Ash Wednesday, Holy Week, Easter and Harvest services.

Church

At the end of every half term we will hold our worship in our Parish Church, St Mary's Bryanston Square. Parents and carers are warmly welcomed to join us whenever we attend the church.

Withdrawal from Collective Worship

As a Church of England school, we are committed to respecting individual beliefs. We celebrate and value the cultural diversity of all the members of our school and we have a cohesive community.  Although collective worship will always reflect the Christian ethos of our school, we respect and acknowledge the variety of religious observances which are represented in our school and within the wider community. We acknowledge too that there are those of no faith who chose to be part of our school community.

Upon entrance to the school, parents/ carers are made aware of the Christian basis of our teaching. It is therefore unlikely that parents/carers would wish to exercise their legal right of withdrawal. However, should such a case arise, the parents/carers concerned should consult the Head teacher.
